Back in Scotland.
And back in the water.
Meteor was in great shape in her giant shed at Fairlie Quay. Her interior was dry and mold free, and her exterior was free of bird poop, thanks to the best sheet of plastic EVER.
We spent a week getting her ready to launch, awakening dormant muscles going up and down the ladder for what seems at least a thousand times a day, bending over, (always at an odd angle), for pretty much every task, on deck slithering under the plastic cover, somewhat like Maxwell Smart in the laser field to avoid the feeling of giant saggy sacks of a winter’s worth of bird poo sliding over your back, and finally ending the day walking the three flights of stairs to our “2nd floor” rental (apparently the 1st floor isn’t the 1st floor here, it is the 2nd floor).
Jet lagged, sore, stiff, and dusty, we plummeted into a deep sleep each night within seconds of heads hitting pillows, both so tired we forgot to get coffee at the grocery store, which is why we went to the grocery store in the first place.
We launched on Wednesday afternoon, and moved the boat to Largs Yacht Haven, working until late that night to get her rigged before a big pile of wind hit the west coast of Scotland. Like we had never tied up a boat before, we suffered through the night with a squeaky fender right at our heads, the wind too strong that night to pull the boat off. With a few days to scrub the yard grime from her topsides, stow our stuff, and get the sails sorted out, she is looking her stunning self again.
Big thanks to the folks at Fairlie Quay Marina for taking such good care of our beauty, and us, and we miss you all!
